Pay-for-Performance
As the healthcare system moves forward adopting Pay-for-Performance (P4P) as the new reimbursement paradigm, software vendors are hurriedly trying to upgrade their products. SmartCare® has had full Pay-for-Performance reporting since its inception over 8 years ago.

The data is the underlying problem in P4P analysis. P4P works by ranking providers for distinct types of episodes-of-care based on a combination of quality--a clinical outcome--and cost. For the first time in the reimbursement arena, administrative (claims) data cannot be used alone--clinical data must be included in order to arrive at an outcome ranking. So as electronic medical records become used by more providers, this clinical data must be integrated with administrative data into a common data warehouse.

That's exactly how SmartCare®'s data warehouse was designed from the beginning. As you can see in the report and pie chart shown here, it's easy in SmartCare to compare providers by any service area or treatment pattern, in this case hospitals for coronary care. And as shown below, our P4P abilities include comparing what it costs employers, too.
