Vantage Point Announces Sale of SmartCare® Software to Major California Healthcare Delivery System

(New Milford, CT February 12, 2003) Vantage Point Healthcare Information Systems, Inc. today announced the sale of an unlimited-user license of its SmartCare® data mining and decision-support software to Sharp Healthcare, the largest healthcare delivery system in the San Diego region.

The software will be used by the Sharp Community Medical Group (SCMG) division to analyze resource utilization patterns and costs of care. In particular, SmartCare® will be used with the 3M CRG (Clinical Risk Groups) software to assess the care and costs of patients pooled into severity-adjusted disease categories.

SCMG is one of three medical groups comprising Sharp Healthcare, one of the largest integrated, regional health care delivery systems in California, with $1.1 billion in annual income. The SCMG division includes over 200 primary care physicians and 500 specialists who provide care to 165,000 patients annually. SmartCare® initially is being used by SCMG to analyze $200 million in professional claims during 2000-2001.

Of note is the fact that Vantage Point converted SCMG’s data and processed all of it through both the 3M software and through SmartCare® in less than 3 days, and then installed the entire database and system onsite. The SCMG staff was using SmartCare® at their workstations, analyzing this $200 million of their own claims, in less than one hour after the Vantage Point staffperson arrived. They are now assembling corresponding hospital and pharmacy data to add to this study, and then create a comparable 2002 dataset.
